Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey of a 32-hectare (80-acre) development tract in Pickens County, Georgia was conducted to locate, identify, and assess the significance of cultural resources within the project's Area of Potential Effects. The project area is located between Highway 515 and Old Philadelphia Road, approximately 600 meters north of the intersection of Highway 515 and State Route 53. Five cultural resources were recorded as a result of this survey: three archeological sites and two historic farming complexes. Archeological sites 9PI218 and 9PI219, and historic resources HS-1 and HS-2, are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Phase II testing was conducted at one site, to formulate a clear NRHP eligibility recommendation; based on testing results of the site there is also recommended ineligible for the NRHP. No additional cultural resources work is recommended for this undertaking.
