Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted data recovery excavations on 9GO231 in Gordon County, Georgia. Excavations were conducted prior to construction of a replacement bridge for State Route 156 over Salacoa Creek. A portion of 9GO231 lies within the area of potential effect required for the bridge replacement project. The landform adjacent to Salacoa Creek on which 9GO231 lies was determined by geomorphological investigation to be comprised entirely of Holocene sediments, most of which were deposited rapidly during the early part of the Holocene period. Field work was conducted during the spring of 2006. A total of 33 square meters was hand excavated, consisting of eight 2-x-2-m excavation units and one 1-x-1-m excavation unit.
