Abstract

The proposed project consists of additions to the existing Ocmulgee Heritage Trail (OHT). The trail/sidewalk route is to go within public right-of-way controlled by either Georgia DOT or the City of Macon beginning on Riverside Dr. (GA Hwy 11/87) at New Street and extending south to a point approximately 200 feet south of MLK, JR. Blvd. (US Hwy 80) (see attached location map). The proposed plan for portions of the walkway is to remove and replace existing damaged or inadequate sidewalk. Other sections will be constructed where there is no existing sidewalk, but within a pedestrian lane currently delineated only with striping, from Broadway to First Street. The proposed plan is to sawcut the asphalt in this area and install new curb & gutter and walkway that is generally 10 feet wide. New GDOT standard catch basins will be required. North of First Street the plan is to utilize existing curb alignment and replaced damaged curb and old sidewalk with new curbing and walkway. New light poles with decorative concrete break-away poles are proposed to be placed mid-way between the existing metal "cobra head" light poles, which are to remain. New lighting would be set back farther than the existing light poles that will remain.
