Abstract

R.S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted a Phase I archeological resources survey on a section of the Thomaston-Silvertown Trail and Trailhead project, a Transportation Enhancement (TE) undertaking. The project area consists of a 25-acre (10 hectares) wooded area in Thomaston, Georgia. The study was conducted on behalf of Jordan, Jones, and Goulding, Inc. and the City of Thomaston to locate and identify archeological resources within the project area, and to assess resource significance based on National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria [36CFR Part 60.4 (a-d)]. The Phase I archeological resources survey included a literature review and intensive field survey. During the literature review, state and county records, maps, and documents were examined to determine if previously recorded archeological sites are located in or around the project area. The field survey was conducted using surface and subsurface techniques.
