Abstract

The Bibb site is a group of stone mounds and terraces situated on top of a knoll west of the Ocmulgee River in the lower piedmont of central Georgia. This report presents the results of a visit to the site on 1 August 1983 at the request of the Bibb Company, a textile manufacturing firm which owns the site. During the visit, the Bibb site was mapped, photographed and recorded. No excavations were conducted and no surface collections were made. The work was conducted by W. Dean Wood and Thomas H. Gresham of Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. of Athens, Georgia. They were assisted by Mr. Joe Creasey and Mr. Steve Henley of Plant Camellia, a Bibb Company plant adjacent to the site.

The notes and records pertaining to this project are curated at the University of Georgia’s Department of Anthropology in Athens. Included is the 42 by 49 cm original of the site plan. A Georgia Archeological Survey form was updated as a result of this project and has been entered in the official site files.
