Abstract

This cultural resources survey conducted in July and December 1982, covered the 281-acre Chenocetah Mountain tract of National Forest land southeast of Cornelia, GA, offered for exchange. Only one site was found on the property, a CCC-built stone observation tower, dedicated as a memorial to Forest Service employees who died in World War II. While the remainder of the tract is in demand for residential housing, it is recommended that the memorial tower and its surrounding 4.5 acre park should continue to be maintained and in public ownership.
