Abstract

The proposed project on SR 25 Spur East/Torras Causeway would begin east of the intersection with SR 25/US 17/Ocean_ Highway and would continue to just west of CR 584/Kings Way on St. Simons Island. The total project length would be approximately four miles. The proposed project would construct a median barrier from just east of Terry Creek Road to just west of Marina Drive. Further, the intersection at Marina Drive would be improved to have a traffic signal, and a raised median would be installed from just east of Marina Drive to just west of CR 584/Kings Way on St. Simons Island. The median barrier is proposed to separate the twoway traffic and prevent a vehicle from crossing over to the opposing travel lanes. The raised median would separate the two-way traffic between the opposing travel lanes. The median barrier would be continuous for approximately three miles except for a single median opening in a centralized location that would be used by emergency vehicles only. The number of barrier openings has been minimized to reduce the hazards created by additional barrier ends and decreased intersection sight distance. The raised median would be approximately 0.3 miles in length. All work would take place on the existing pavement. No right-of-way would be required for the proposed project. Traffic would be maintained on the roadway during construction with no more than one lane in each direction closed at a time.
