Abstract

The Port Wentworth Wye tract occupies approximately 6.47 hectares (16 acres) in the northern portion of Chatham County, Georgia. A preliminary plan calls for the realignment of the existing Port Wentworth Lead and the construction of a new wye track to handle southbound traffic. The triangle-shaped area formed by the realigned lead, the new wye, and the existing main track will be filled to accommodate the rail line. The entire project tract is the Area of Potential Effect (APE). The APE consists of a corridor 1 mile (1610m) long by 150 feet (46m) wide, plus an attached triangular shaped area approximately 1200 feet (370m) long by 650 feet (200m) at the triangular apex. The property is situated less than 1/4 mile north of Gulfstream Road, and less than 3/4 miles west of Georgia Highway 21. The tract is bordered to the north and south by land owned by the Savannah Economic Development Authority, to the east by the Norfolk Southern Railway, and to the west by the CSX Railway.
