Abstract

On November 13 and 14, 1982, Robert S. Webb, archeological consultant for Claude Terry & Associates, Inc. (CTA) conducted a 100 percent coverage cultural resource pedestrian survey of the proposed Oglethorpe Power Corporation Stoney Hill-Ohoopee transmission line corridor in Tattnall County, Georgia. A review of the site files at the University of Georgia in Athens revealed that no prehistoric or historic resources have been previously recorded within the impact zone. Surface survey and subsurface shovel testing revealed three sites: two prehistoric surface scatters (124.2-1, 124.2-2) and a prehistoric subsurface scatter (124.2-3). Sites 124.2-1 and 124.2-2 were determined to he disturbed surface scatters, while Site 124.2-3 appears to be a low density subsurface scatter containing little significant archeological data. Based on these findings, CTA recommends full cultural clearance for the proposed transmission line.
