Abstract

Project FR-036-2(12) consists of the widening and reconstruction of SR 32 from SR 4/US 23 to just east of CR 323. BRF-036-2(3) is the replacement of the existing bridge over Hurricane Creek. Existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet; however, at the bridge, the right-of-way flares out to 200 feet. An additional 20 feet (120 feet total) would be required along the existing roadway, while an additional 20 to 40 feet (240 feet total) would be required for the bridge construction. Total project length is 3.5 miles. An archaeological survey consistent with the project corridor was conducted. The archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
