Abstract

The proposed project would construct an eastbound passing lane on S.R. 32 from m.p. 13.4 to m.p. 14.6 and consists of S.R. 203 improvements. Improvements to the S.R. 32/S.R. 203 intersection would include a new location realignment of S.R. 203 along an existing dirt road. The new location section would be approximately 600 feet in length, and would require 100 feet of right-of-way. Presently, S.R. 32 has 100 feet of right-of-way and would require an additional 15 feet along the passing lane section for a total length of approximately 1.2 miles. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
