Abstract

On September 19, 1977, the Earth Systems Division of SSI received authorization from Roy F. Weston, Inc. to prepare an archaeological, botanical and land application reconnaissance for the proposed wastewater treatment facilities for the Alapaha, Georgia, 201 Facilities Plan. Alapaha is located in Berrien County, approximately 18 miles east of Tifton, Georgia, along U.S. Highway 82. Our objective for this study, as stated in our proposals of September 10 and October 7, 1976, was to evaluate the suitability of select sites for the land application of municipal wastewater. The evaluation included archaeological and botanical reconnaissance of the selected sites and an area wide assessment for transmission corridors. It was not the purpose of the study to evaluate any economic criteria associated with pretreatment of wastewater, transmission cost or land cost. Only the biological, chemical, physical and cultural criteria associated with the land application of wastewater was considered during the evaluation of the potential application sites.
