Abstract

This project occurs in two locations. Location 1 is the replacement of the bridge over the Ogeechee River on Bulloch County Road 579 and Screven County Road 241. The project is entirely within existing rightof-way in a corridor 1300 feet long and 150 feet wide. Location 2 is the replacement at the bridge over Horse Creek on Screven County Road 241. This project is within the existing right-of-way in a corridor 1275 feet long and 150 feet wide. An archaeological survey (Level I ) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodology approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
