Abstract

The proposed Embry Farm sand and gravel operation site is located on the left (south) floodplain (T-O) of the Chattahoochee River at a point just west of Rodgers Bridge Road in Gwinnett County (Figures 1 and 3). Georgia. about 1 mile north of Duluth. Embry Farms owns approximately 28 acres in this area. but the proposed project will affect only about 4.5 acres. Within this area the project will primarily consist of the plant site. stockpile. refuse pile. pipeline. sediment pond. shop and equipment storage facilities. scales and haul road (Figure 2). An approximately 150 foot-wide undisturbed buffer zone will separate the impact area from the river. Sand will be dredged/piped from the river to the stock pile from where it will be trucked away via the haul road. The precise location of this road has not been definitely stipulated. but it will be constructed somewhere between the buffer zone and natural drainage ditch.
