Abstract

In June 2005, Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) performed an intensive- cultural resource assessment survey of the 350-acre Winding Road tract in Camden County, Georgia, on behalf of LandMar Group, LLC. The goal of the survey was to locate, identify, delineate, and evaluate all cultural resources within the parcel, including prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, as well as historic structures. The cultural resource assessment survey included a pedestrian inspection combined with systematic shovel testing at 30 and 90-meter intervals. Delineation shovel tests were dug at 5 and 10-meter intervals. As a result of the survey, two archaeological sites (9CM269 and 9CM270) were recorded and one isolated find (IF # 1) was documented. Site 9CM269 contained limited remnants of a probable liquor still and 9CM270 contained sparse artifacts dating to the late 19th and early 20t1 centuries. No standing historic structures were encountered on the subject property and neither of the sites nor the isolated find was considered eligible for NRHP inclusion.
