Abstract

The cultural resources survey was conducted on a parcel of 1,125 acres of National Forest land in Compartments 530 and 552 on the south side of Waters Creek in northwest Lumpkin County, Georgia. These compartments are in the Chestatee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest and in the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area. The land in question is in Districts 11 and 15 of Section 1 in the Gold Lot area. This survey was conducted prior to proposed timber sales and their related Forest road construction projects (FS 654a, 654c) and in compliance with EO 11593, for General Forest Inventory. The survey recorded nine sites as listed below. All have been heavily disturbed by subsequent activities, primarily farming and logging, and except for their location and distribution, provide little additional data. They do not fulfill 36 CFR 60 criteria for the National Register, and thus clearance for the proposed logging and road construction projects is recommended. None of the sites found occurred directly within the areas planned for either roads or log landings.
