An intensive archaeological survey of GDOT Project F-117-1(11), the Bobby Jones Expressway from S.R. 56 Loop/New Savannah Road in Richmond County, Georgia to U.S. 1 in Aiken County, South Carolina, lead to the revision of the Augusta Railroad Demonstration Project Discontinuous Archaeological District. Through the use of data gathered by several previous surveys and additional field survey, twelve sites were found to lie within the area of potential environmental impact for Alternate C modified. Five of these sites would require mitigation through data recovery.
