Abstract

In November of 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services conducted an archeological survey of a 5.2 ha (13 ac) tract for the city of Grovetown in Columbia County, Georgia, for the Georgia Department of Transportation. The city wishes to develop the land for soccer fields. Two archeological sites were identified in the area of potential effect. Sites 9CB598 and 9CB599 both consist of late nineteenth or twentieth century artifacts scatters. The former site also includes an isolated prehistoric lithic. The two sites are recommended ineligible to the National Register owing to the sparsity of the deposits and a loss of integrity. Thus, the proposed undertaking will have no adverse effect to any significant archeological sites.
