Abstract

The proposed projects would consist of the widening and reconstruction of SR 306 beginning at CR 148/State Barn Road just west of SR 400, and extending easterly to CR 149/Martin Road for a total distance of approximately 2.9 km (1.8 mi). The proposed projects would also replace the existing culvert over Baldridge Creek and widen the existing bridge over SR 400. The existing right-of-way on SR 306 varies from approximately 24.4 to 89.9 m (80 to 295 m). The total required right-of-way would vary from approximately 45.7 to 89.9 m (150 to 295 ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was conducted for the entire length of the projects' corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible archaeological resources were located within the projects' area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the projects will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the projects conform to that described above".
