Abstract

This report presents the results of archaeological survey and testing in a proposed reservoir on Dog River, Douglas County, Georgia. These investigations were conducted under the auspices of, and funded by, the Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority. A 235 acre flood pool, with maximum elevation of 750 feet above sea level, was examined through pedestrian survey. Subsurface inspection of the project area was accomplished through the excavation of shovel tests (30 cm x 30 cm) at 40 meter intervals. Fifteen cultural resources were located within the project boundaries. After detailed archaeological testing, three sites were recommended as eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
