Abstract

New South Associates, Inc. conducted a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey of a proposed United States Army Reserve (USAR) Center site in Warner Robins, Houston County, Georgia, to determine whether any archeological or historic resources were present in the project area or the Area of Potential Effect (APE). The Vernadero Group Inc., who is responsible for providing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, subcontracted New South Associates to perform the cultural resources survey. Archaeological fieldwork was conducted on September 22 and 23, 2010. The APE for the project was about 15 acres of fallow agricultural field on the southwest corner of Cohen Walker Drive and Snellgrove Drive located in Houston County, Georgia. No historic structures were present on or adjacent to this location. The area was covered in shoulder to abovehead high meadow vegetation. Eighty-three shovel test locations were investigated for this survey. The Phase I Archaeological Survey resulted in finding no artifacts or subsurface deposits. The cultural resources survey of the USAR Center site did not identify any historic structures or cultural resources in the project's APE. There was no evidence that further cultural resource management is warranted.
