Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the widening and reconstruction of SR 204 SPUR/Whitfield Avenue from Old Whitfield Road to Ferguson Avenue for a total distance of 2.3 miles (see attached location map). The existing roadway consists of two 12-foot lanes with shoulders. The proposed construction would include four 12-foot travel lanes separated by a 20-foot raised median with curb and gutter. In addition, two 4-foot bike lanes are proposed in each direction. The project would also include sidewalks on both sides of the roadway from Mistewood Lane to the end of the project. The sidewalks would tie in to the existing sidewalk south of the bridge crossing Haneys Creek. The two culverts approximately 2,100 feet north of the intersection for SR 205 SPUR/Whitefield Avenue would occur within the existing right-of-way or in areas immediately adjacent to the roadway. The existing right-of-way varies throughout the project length from 35 to 200 feet in width. Therefore, additional right-of-way would be required in some locations. This project serves as an addendum to a previous archaeological resources survey conducted in advance of a proposed road widening along SR204IWhitfield Avenue (Braley 1999 and Sweeney 2008). The new APE consists of seven survey corridors located immediately west and to the east of the previous APE, south of the intersection with Old Montgomery Rd. and at its intersection with Ferguson Avenue. Existing right-of-way on Whitfield Ave ranges from 43 feet to 150 feet. The proposed right-of-way ranges from 120 feet to 180 feet.
