Abstract

This project will enhance the utility, safety, and attractiveness of the pedestrian experience by adding landscaping, installing period street lighting, and making operational and aesthetic improvements to pedestrian systems and crossing areas. The improvements will increase the economic viability and enhance the character of the area. A portion of this project is the installation of new mast arm signals and streetscape enhancements at the SRI91US441 at SR 31 MLK Boulevard intersection. The project proposes to replace the existing traffic devices with decorative arms and hardware at the main intersection, add new trees where possible, add decorative lighting along this corridor, and enhance the sidewalks in areas with brick pavers as well as construct new sidewalks with crosswalks and ADA accessible handicap ramps. A very small community park is proposed with a bell tower adjacent to the northwest corner of the intersection. The project also proposes to replace sidewalk that is in poor condition along Bellevue Avenue from Church Street to Lancaster. Lighting will be added on existing Georgia Power street poles on the opposite side of pole for pedestrian traffic. Historical signs will be added along the corridor, sod areas will be removed and replaced, new street trees will be added, and ADA ramps will be added along Bellevue Avenue.
