Abstract

This report presents the results of a cultural resources survey conducted by New World Research, Inc., at the Fort Gordon Military Reservation, in northeast Georgia. The work was conducted under contract with Interagency Archeological Services - Atlanta (IAS-A), and in compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (Public Law 89-665), Executive Order 11593 (Protection and Enhancement of the Cultural Environment), Procedures for the Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties (36 CFR Part 800), the Federal Procurement Regulations (41 CFR 1), and the Federal Procurement Regulations System, Department of the Interior (41 CFR 14). As set forth in the scope-of-work, the requirements of the work included a thorough literature and background search of all material pertinent to the environment, prehistory, and history of the project area, an intensive survey of specific areas of proposed development which totaled 39.6 hectares (98 acres), and a five to ten per-cent sample survey of the base excluding the cantonment and restricted areas, but including each major physiographic and ecological zone.
