Abstract

As a part of the cultural resource assessment for the Environmental Impact Statements for these projects, an archaeological survey was performed. The projects run along existing alignment with additional purchase of right-of-way to provide for four-laning. Most of the project area is heavily strip developed. They cross three waterways - Mill Creek, Coahulla Creek, and the Conasauga River. The new right of way for the new bridge construction will be on the eastern side along old bridge structures. A gas pipeline is also located along the alignment at Coahulla Creek and Conasauga River. Any archaeological evidence has been destroyed by grading for the bridges and pipeline construction. However, if the new right-of-way is shifted to the west of the existing bridges, the area must be retested.
