Abstract

This project proposes to convert to one-way pairs Akers Mill/Powers Ferry Roads from just west of Rottenwood Creek to Northside Drive and North Parkway from just west of Rottenwood Creek to Northside Drive. Concomitant with this will be U-turn lanes at I-285/Powers Ferry Road and I-285/Northside Dr. and a new location connector west of Rottenwood Creek from North Parkway to Akers Mill Road. An archaeological survey consistent with the project corridor was surveyed for the entire length of the project. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with the DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and the State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project would have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
