Abstract

The proposed project would improve the safety and operation of the intersection of Chastain Road at Bells Ferry Road in Cobb County. Improvements for the 0.19 mile project would include widening Chastain Road to include exclusive right turn lanes on eastbound and westbound approaches to Bells Ferry Road and would reconstruct a portion of the eastbound median to increase storage of a dedicated left turn lane. It is anticipated that the project would require the construction of a retaining wall to reduce impacts to residences along the eastbound approach of Chastain Road. Existing right-of-way is 42-63 feet. Proposed right-of-way would be 42-63.5 feet. The APE for the project includes everything within the proposed construction project length and within the maximum extent of the existing and required right-of-way as described above. A total of four sites are located within a 1-km radius of the project area: 9C071, 9C072, 9C0110, and 9C0487. Site 9CO71 consisted of a single plain sherd. No other information is given on the short form including no eligiblity recommendation. Site 9CO72 is a prehistoric artifact scatter that may date to the Middle Archaic through Middle Woodland periods. No eligibility recommendation is given. Site 9CO110 is a prehistoric lithic and pottery scatter that was identified in 1975. No eligibility recommendation is given on the form. Site 9CO487 was identified in 1995 and is a prehistoric and historic artifact scatter. The site is recorded as of unknown eligibility.
