Abstract

This report describes the results of test excavations carried out at Crange Hall in St. Marys, Georgia from June 22nd to the 27th, 1979. These tests were performed in compliance with 36 C.F.R. part 600-"Procedures for the Protection of' Historic and Cultural Properties." The work was necessitated through the current development piano to renovate the site and structure. These plans call for the architectural restoration and refurbishment of the 1829 building with the addition of updated sewer and water facilities. This work was to be accomplished in part through federal funding. Fieldwork for the archeological testing totaled six days for six people. The personnel involved were Martin P. Dickinson, Thomas Des Jean, Beth Bennet, Jean Wollenberg, Helen Doney, and Malinda Stafford. Project consultant was Dr. Charles H. Fairbanks, Distinguished Service Professor of Anthropology, University of Florida. Another person whose aid proved invaluable is Mr. Robert Heminger who is co-director of the architectural reconstruction.
