Numerous surveys have been performed within the Eelbeck district in the past thirty years (Gresham 1982, Vol. 2, Part 1; Poplin and Goodwin 1988a; Hight 1977; Remote Sensing Analysts 1979). No standing structures or undisturbed prehistoric sites remain within the area. Therefore the primary means of obtaining information for this report was by literature and record search. With the assistance of John Metcalf, a local authority on the Eelbeck community, deed records, old maps and microfilm files for Chattahoochee and Muscogee Counties, Georgia were probed for information. Additionally, a number of cultural resource reports for the Fort Benning Reservation were consulted.
