Abstract

This project proposes to widen S.R.10/U.S.78 from Stone Mountain Park Interchange to East Park Place Boulevard. The existing right-of-way is approximately 230 feet and the required right-of-way is variable up to approximately 600 feet at the proposed interchange. The project length is 0.87 mile. A survey consistent with the corridor was conducted for the length of the project. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with the DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and the State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project would have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
