Abstract

The proposed project would widen SR 124 at the intersection of CR 106/Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett County. Left turn lanes would be provided for both northbound and southbound traffic on SR 124. Also, CR 106/Old Peachtree Road would be relocated to intersect with SR 124 at 90 degree angles. The total proposed project length would be approximately 0.3 km (0.18 mi) on SR 124 and approximately 0.2 km (0.15 mi) on CR 106. The existing rights-of-way for SR 124 and CR 106 are 24.4 m (80 ft) and 18.3 m (60 ft), respectively. Approximately 0.36 ha (0.9 ac) of additional right-of-way would be required. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
