Archaeological Assessment of Project SR-2489(8) and MR-9285(4)

Report Number

Year of Publication
1995
Abstract

The projects propose to widen and resurface US 23/SR 13 from 2 lanes to 5 lanes with a 20 ft. raised median from Langford to Old Peachtree Road in Duluth. An archaeological survey (Level 1 ) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT Archaeological Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodology approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed projects corridors as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the projects will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the projects conforms to that described above.
