Report Number

Abstract

The proposed borrow area is located east of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard just north of the intersection with SR 120. The borrow area would extend approximately 500 feet east of the existing right-of-way along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard for approximately 1500 feet (north-to-south); the total acreage is estimated to be 17.2 acres. An archaeological survey for the widening of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in the area of the proposed borrow pit was initially conducted in 1989 as part of GDOT Project FR-190-1(8), Gwinnett County. An archaeological survey consistent with the project boundaries was conducted. An archaeological survey (Level III) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No archaeological resources were located within the proposed project area as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will not affect archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
