Report Number

Year of Publication
2001
Abstract

The proposed project will provide a non-freeway communication fiber optic ca in Gwinnett County. The project will begin at the intersection of Interstate 85 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard and continue parallel to Jimmy Carter Boulevard. At the Holcomb Bridge Road intersection, it will continue paralleling Holcomb Bridge Road to end at the Fulton County Line. All cable will be installed on existing utility poles within existing right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire approximately 8 km (5 mi) project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No archaeological resources were located within the proposed project area as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will not affect archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
