Abstract

In 1998, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological survey of a 16 km (10 mile) long corridor along US 441 /SR 15 extending north from the Tallulah River to the city of Clayton, Georgia. Recent design changes have necessitated a supplemental archaeological survey at selected points along this highway. Specifically, six street intersections are slated for widening and one side street entrance will be completely modified. This survey was intended to identify and evaluate the potential impacts of such a project on archaeological resources in the project area. Fieldwork consisted of a combination of methods involving intensive archaeological survey, surface inspection, and visual reconnaissance of all the intersections slated for reconstruction. No artifacts were recovered and no archaeological resources were identified in any of the survey areas. Archaeological resource clearance for the proposed road improvements is recommended.
