Abstract

I was asked to conduct an archaeological survey of selected areas of the Pyne Road Public Recreation Park, West Point Reservoir Troup County, Georgia, by Mr. George Harris of the Troup County Parks and Recreation Commission. The survey was conducted in two separate sub-areas of the Pyne Road Park. These are illustrated in figure 1. Area A consisted of a projected picnic area on a steeply sloping bank which directly adjoins the West Point Reservoir. It is approximately one acre in size and the current foliage consists mostly of pine, brush and grasses. Area B is a cleared beach which is in the process of being covered with trucked-in sand. My survey was confined to the northern end of the beach area. The area surveyed covered an area approximately 100 yards by 50 yards. In both areas the soil consists of red clay with rock inclusions.
