Abstract

During the period of December 13 through 16, 2005, R.S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted a literature review and Phase I cultural resources survey for the Proposed Cherokee County Airport Expansion Project, Cherokee County, Georgia. The cultural resources survey was conducted to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area, and to assess each resources significance based on National Register of Historic Places criteria (36 CFR Part 60.4). The project area is approximately 116 acres (47hectares) located west of Hwy I-575. Four prehistoric sites (9CK1213-9CK1216) were identified. Efforts were made to relocate two previously recorded sites (9CK724 and 9CK725); however relocation was not possible due previous construction. No temporally diagnostic artifacts were recovered from the four archeological sites to indicate periods of use. The four sites (9CK 1213-9CK 1216) are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. No further cultural resources work is warranted.
