Abstract

A Phase I archaeological survey of approximately 26 acres of land situated on the banks of Buffalo Creek immediately east of Hayes Mill Road in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia was conducted from July 19, 2004 through July 24, 2004. The survey was conducted in compliance with section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, as amended, with the goal of locating, describing and to the extent possible evaluating the significance of all archeological sites within the proposed undertaking. A standard pedestrian survey coupled with shovel testing was used. One archaeological site, an historic quarry, was recorded during the survey and it is recommended that a Phase II archaeological and historical survey be conducted to determine if it is eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. All records from this survey are curated at the Antonio J. Waring Archaeology Laboratory at the State University of West Georgia, Carrollton, Georgia.
