Abstract

Between May 30 and June 2, 2017, TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama performed a cultural resources survey for the proposed Stream Logistics Center in Jackson County, Georgia. The Phase I survey was performed by Principal Investigator Paul D. Jackson, who was assisted by Jeff Thompson, Shawna Felkel, and Tyler Reece. The study area consists of 56.1 acres of land surrounding a series of defined streams ..

The investigation led to the identification of one archaeological site (9JK312), consisting of a possible Beaver Lake projectile point base and a biface recovered from the subsurface directly beneath the initial find. Site 9JK312 is recommended ineligible for NRHP listing under Criterion D.

Ten historic resources were evaluated during the project, four of which are considered eligible (101634, 101638, 101640, and 103397). Historic resource 101634, falls a mile from the project area and will not be visually impacted by the proposed development. HS I 01638 falls within an NR property 90001408 but will be less affected by the development. lt would be important to leave a stand of trees between the development and the property to ensure the visual impact be reduced. HS I 01640 and 103397 fall just outside the proposed development and will be visually impacted by the development. A plan to screen the project area with a stand of trees or fencing should be developed to ensure the impact on these resources be as minimal as possible.

Based on the results of this Phase I cultural resource study, it is the opinion of TerraX that no significant archaeological resources will be adversely affected within the proposed project area. A protective plan should be considered to ensure the minimization of visual impacts to four of the historic resources, outside the project development but within a mile radius of the project.
