Abstract

9Pm260 is located on a high ridge on the western side of the Oconee River 2.2km upstream from the dam. The site consists of a small rockshelter with two open ends formed from large boulders apparently exposed by severe erosion of the ridge (Figure 1). The floor area of the shelter is approximately 17 sq. m. The original site description includes the surrounding ridge top; however, only the rockshelter and its immediate environs were excavated. Survey and limited testing by Paulk indicated Lamar occupational debris in the shelter, with Lamar and earlier material scattered around the ridge top. Bone and shell were preserved in the shelter.
