Abstract

GDOT Project STP00-0009-00(825) proposes to create a more efficient and safer transportation facility for the citizens of Gwinnett County while meeting the capacity demands of future traffic along the Pleasant Hill Road corridor. Mobility and access would be improved by the conversion of the tight diamond interchange at Interstate 85 (I-85) to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Operational efficiency, capacity, and safety would be improved by the proposed work, even though no additional lanes are proposed. The proposed roadway's horizontal and vertical alignments would very closely mimic the existing conditions, with the exception of minor horizontal shifts to the exit and entrance ramps. The project would improve pedestrian safety by adding signal controls at all crossings.
