Abstract

Projects STP-076-1 (21), (22), and (23) consist of the widening and reconstruction of State Route 104. Unit (21) begins immediately north of Kiokee Creek and continues southeast for approximately 3 miles to the intersection of SR 104 and CR 515/Cumberland Drive. Unit (22) would begin immediately north of the existing SR 104, SR 150, and SR 47 intersection and continue southeast for approximately 2.46 miles to just north of Kiokee Creek. The SR 150 and SR 47 intersection would be realigned to intersect approximately 0. 3 mile west of the existing intersection. Unit (23) would begin at the intersection of SR 104 and CR 515/Cumberland Drive and continue southeast for 2.29 miles, ending at the existing four-lane section approximately 0. 5 mile south of the SR 104 and CR 92/Hardy McManus Road intersection. Existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet; the proposed right-of-way would vary from 205 feet to 230 feet. Total length of the projects is approximately 6.75 miles. The archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with the "Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with staff of the Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the proposed projects' areas of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the projects will not affect archaeological resources in or eligible for inclusion in the National Register.".
