Abstract

Route 28/Fury' s Ferry Road. The widening would begin just south of the Richmond County line and would extend to just north of Evans to Locks Road intersection. The proposed widening would be symmetrical but would shift throughout the project in order to minimize impacts. Existing right-of-way is 100 feet; the proposed right-of-way would vary from 110 feet to 130 feet. Total project length is approximately 2.9 miles. The archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with the "Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with staff of the Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will not affect archaeological resources in or eligible for inclusion in the National Register.".
