Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, projects NH-IM-1851 (285) (343) (317), Muscogee County have been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the surveys was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed projects area of potential environmental effect. Project NH-IM-185-1 (285) (343) (317) would reconstruct I-185 in Muscogee County. Project IM-185-1(285) would reconstruct the "S" curves on I-185 from Victory Drive northerly to the northbound and southbound bridges over Old Cusseta Road. Project IM-185-1 (343) would widen the northbound and southbound bridges over Old Cusseta Road. Project NH-IM-185-1 (317) would add an additional inside lane on I-185 from the northbound and southbound bridges over Old Cusseta Road northerly to St. Mary's Road. The existing right-of-way on I-185 is approximately 60.9 meters (200 feet), while the additional required right-of-way would be approximately 15.2 meters (50 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
