Abstract

In February of 2011, and March and April of 2012, Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) performed an intensive cultural resource assessment survey of the ±1,500.8-acre TerraPointe/Belfast Commerce Centre, on behalf of TerraPointe Service Inc. The goal of the survey was to locate, identify, delineate, and evaluate all cultural resources within the parcel, including prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, as well as historic structures, to comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The cultural resource assessment survey included a pedestrian inspection combined with systematic shovel testing at 10, 30, and 90 meter intervals. As a result of the survey, fifteen new archaeological sites (9BN1469-9BN1483) were documented.
