Abstract

On June 16 and July 9, 19, 25 and 26, historical and archaeological surveys were conducted of specific sites and areas in and around Alma, Georgia. The following report of findings and recommendations is a product of The History Group, Inc. The historic survey was carried out by Dr. Timothy J. Crimmins and Dr. Howard L. Preston, and the archaeological survey was conducted by a team from the Laboratory of Archaeology, Georgia State University, under the direction of Dr. Roy S. Dickens, Jr. The report is divided into two parts. Section One analyzes the historic development of Alma as it relates to two specific areas of the city. Information contained in this section was gathered by means of site analyses, interviews, and archival research. Section Two surveys seven project areas and contains descriptions, interpretations, and recommendations relevant to those seven sites. Information for this section was obtained by archaeological surface inspections and sub-surface tests (where necessary). All field records were accessioned into the permanent archaeological archives at the Laboratory of Archaeology, Georgia state University, Atlanta, Georgia.
