Abstract

Four archeological sites were discovered during the intensive cultural resources survey of the proposed Monroe dam and reservoir. Approximately 170 ac (69 ha) were examined. Sites were discovered by visual reconnaissance of exposed ground surfaces and by the excavation of shovel tests on favorable landforms. In addition to the fieldwork, a literature review was, undertaken, laboratory analysis was conducted and maps and photographs were prepared. These data were used to evaluate the significance of the four sites. None of the four appear to qualify for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
