Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site is a proposed telecommunications facility located at Off Quail Farm Road, Thomson, McDuffie County, Georgia. The facility would consist of a proposed 100-foot by 100-foot (30-meter by 30-meter) fenced compound surrounding a 260-Foot overall height guyed-type telecommunications structure, three proposed approximate 150-foot long by 20-foot (46-meter by 6-meter) wide guy-wire easements, and associated ground-level support equipment. The proposed facility would be accessible by an approximate 275-foot long by 35-foot (84-meter by 11-meter) wide access/utility easement. This archaeological assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we identified two previously recorded archaeological sites (9MF499 and 9MF500) and three surveys (1903, 6515, and 7135) within 3/4-mile of the subject site, but outside of the APE for direct effects. Furthermore, during the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered. ECA believes that the proposed undertaking would have no effect on any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Based on our findings related to archaeological resources, we recommend no further consultation under Section 106 Review of the National Historic Preservation Act for this proposed undertaking.
