Abstract

At the Cherry Point Prehistoric Site (9CM187) and the Cherry Point Historic Site (9CM196), Camden County, Georgia, five selected areas were stripped of topsoil by bulldozer to expose submidden features. A possible Mission Period aboriginal structure was identified within Site 9CM196, as well as a late historic period (1870s to 1910s) well and several post holes. We recommended a portion of Site 9CM196 be considered eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Because topsoil midden is disturbed by modern trash, Cherry Point can be used as a recreation area without impact to the site provided no digging below topsoil is undertaken.
