Abstract

The purpose of this report is to present the findings of a recently conducted archeological reconnaissance survey on the U.S. Navy's Trident Submarine facility located at Kings Bay, Georgia (Figure 1). As the Navy proceeds with the implementation of construction at the Kings Bay facility, selected areas, not previously subjected to archeological survey, are examined as a means by which to locate and define archeological or historic sites not previously identified. In this regard, Phase I reconnaissance level survey is conducted to locate and assess the significance of archeological and/or historic· sites which were not previously identified during the original 1977-78 University of Florida survey. In addition, limited Phase II intensive testing is conducted to assess the impact of any proposed construction activities upon known or recently discovered sites.
